Heather Bishop, Ph.D., D.L.L.P.

Heather Bishop, Ph.D., D.L.L.P., completed her doctoral training in Counseling Psychology at Wayne State University and is currently a postdoctoral fellow at Child and Family Solutions Center. She is also a fully licensed school psychologist and holds a Specialist degree in School Psychology from the University of Detroit Mercy. Dr. Bishop has a range of clinical experience across schools, healthcare settings, and private practice. Dr. Bishop completed her predoctoral clinical internship at McLaren Macomb’s Academic Health Psychology Program. She has extensive experience working with children and adolescents with learning disabilities, ADHD, anxiety, and depression.  Dr. Bishop specializes in child-centered therapeutic strategies for children ages 6 through 12 and also provides therapy to adolescents, young adults, and adults navigating depression, anxiety, and self-esteem challenges.

Dr. Bishop is passionate about working with children, adolescents, and their families from various cultural and ethnic backgrounds. She has learned the importance of being culturally competent when working with children and teens of color while also seeking to understand the influence of their environment on their life experiences. She seeks to understand children and their families by broadening her own exposure to others and by approaching her work with intellectual curiosity about the people she serves and their worldview. Her goal is to empower and advocate for youth while building upon their strengths. Dr. Bishop uses evidence-based therapeutic strategies including Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and a Person-Centered and Strengths Based approach that focuses on empathy, active listening, and wellness. She also provides parenting psychoeducation to help the whole family achieve stability and wellness. Outside of the therapy room, she enjoys traveling, listening to music, and decorating her home.
