Frequently Asked Questions

Play therapy is evidence-based, structured therapeutic work that centers developmentally appropriate play for young children, typically ages 3-12 years old. The therapist helps the child build upon natural play in order to work through psychological challenges.

Parents are integrated into their child’s therapy through the initial intake appointment, routine parent sessions, and communication with the therapist as concerns arise via phone or email. It is vital to us at CFSC that parents are engaged in their child’s care, while also respecting confidentiality.

Everyone brings their whole self to therapy and moves through the process at their own pace! That being said, sometimes addressing certain behaviors can be a short term process, taking a couple of months to work through, and sometimes it looks like therapy over the longer term.

It’s not uncommon for a child to show different behaviors in different environments, because they trigger a variety of emotional, physical, behavioral, and psychological responses.
