Kathleen is a licensed clinical social worker with over 30 years of experience working with children of all ages and their families. She also works with adults experiencing mental health concerns and life challenges. Kathleen was a school social worker for over 20 years and is skilled at creating proactive teams to meet children’s needs in the school setting. She uses evidence based practices such as cognitive behavioral therapy, solution focused and strength based treatment, as well as a systems approach to her work.
Some of Kathleen’s specialties include the treatment of defiance and behavior challenges, parenting, parent education, and social skills support. She is particularly skilled at working with children who have experienced trauma and families in transition.
Kathleen has training in the identification and treatment of perinatal mood disorders as well as supporting trauma survivors through conception, pregnancy, delivery and the post-partum period. She has provided trainings on a national and state level for Even Start and the Michigan Council for Exceptional Children, as well as at the local level on parenting, building community in the school setting, and navigating the special education process.
Kathleen received her BA in Psychology from George Mason University in Fairfax, Virginia, and her Master of Social Work degree from Aurora University outside of Chicago. She is an enthusiastic Chicago Cubs fan! She enjoys writing, spending time with her adult daughters, walking her dog, and music.
