Katy Cornell, M.S.W., L.M.S.W.
Ms. Cornell has designed and facilitated presentations and seminars for other professionals and school personnel on preschool behavior problems, teen dating violence, non-directive play therapy, attachment and trauma in children and adolescents, clinical case management, sexual assault counseling, and diversity and education. Ms. Cornell has over ten years of clinical experience, including work at the Jewish Child and Family Services of Chicago, the Center for Divorce Recovery, and Affiliates in Counseling. She received clinical training at the University of Chicago Child and Adolescent Psychiatric Clinic and the North River Community Mental Health Center. Ms. Cornell’s research has focused on relationships between parents and child therapists, relational theory, and child treatment. Ms. Cornell has published four professional articles in Illinois Child Welfare and Praxis. She has also been an associate editor of two professional journals. Ms. Cornell received her Bachelor of Science in Psychology from Michigan State University and her Master of Social Work from Loyola University Chicago. She is currently a doctoral candidate at the School of Social Work at Loyola University Chicago. is a licensed clinical social worker specializing in therapy with children, adolescents, adults and couples. Ms. Cornell’s areas of expertise include divorce, behavioral problems, anxiety, depression, relational problems, dating violence, multicultural issues, sexual orientation and gender identity, and trauma. She also has specialized knowledge and experience regarding living with type one diabetes.
Ms. Cornell has experience providing parent-child psychotherapy, play therapy, individual therapy, couples therapy, parent consultation, crisis intervention, and consultation with schools. She has supervised and trained clinical social workers and has taught as a part-time faculty member at the School of Social Work at Loyola University Chicago.
