Dr. Daniel Klein



Daniel Klein, Psy.D.
is the director of the Child and Family Solutions Center and a fully licensed psychologist specializing in children, adolescents and families. Areas of his expertise include assessment and treatment of Attention-Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder, anxiety, depression, mood instability, adjustment issues, defiance, and school related problems. He has over 15 years of experience working with children, adolescents, and families in a variety of settings including outpatient, inpatient, school, wilderness, camp, community, and residential treatment. He has delivered presentations on working with disruptive children, childhood aggression, creating an optimal learning environment for students, effective school advocacy, and understanding and treating ADHD.

Currently, Dr. Klein writes the ”Ask the Child Psychologist” blog for the Detroit News, blogging weekly on a variety of topics and answering reader questions. He recently published an article for Divine Caroline on back to school anxiety. In the past, he has been quoted in the Detroit News on helping children cope with death, in Metro Parent Magazine about the potential impact of 9/11 movies on children, and in the Real View Online Magazine about helping children adjust to moving. He was also featured on CBS and UPN television in Detroit discussing teens, relationships and sex.

Clinically, Dr. Klein has developed and conducted social skills, support, and parenting groups around such issues as ADHD, defiant behavior, and anger management. He has provided consultation to teachers in public and private schools. He has completed clinical research exploring the impact of ADHD on teaching stress. He has worked as a school based mental health therapist and consultant in the Hammond, Indiana Public Schools. Additionally, he has provided training and supervision to psychology doctoral students from many Chicago area graduate programs.

Dr. Klein received his clinical training from the University of Chicago Hyperactivity and Learning Problems Clinic, Ravenswood Community Mental Health Center (now part of Illinois Masonic Medical Center) and completed his APA accredited pre-doctoral internship with Tri-City Community Mental Health Center in East Chicago, Indiana. He has also served as a clinical consultant to the Jewish Children’s Bureau of Chicago and is a former staff member on the pediatric-psychiatric inpatient unit of Rush University Hospital. He has received advanced training in Collaborative Problem Solving (CPS). Prior to moving his practice to Michigan, he was a staff psychologist in the Child and Adolescent Behavioral Health Department of Mt. Sinai Hospital in Chicago.

Dr. Klein holds a Bachelors of Arts degree in social policy from James Madison College at Michigan State University. He received a Masters of Arts and a Doctorate in Clinical Psychology from the Chicago School of Professional Psychology. He is a member of the American Psychological Association (APA), the Michigan Psychological Association (MPA), and sits on the board of directors for Tamarack Camps. He is the proud parent of two children.
